Mykonos Tours to Get the Most Out of Your Holiday

Mykonos Tours & Mykonos Boat Tours

In any holiday, it can be difficult to fit everything in, or even know where to start. There are so many things to see and do and often too little time. That’s why some visitors to Mykonos island, Greece prefer to take a tour. Mykonos tours offer expertise that simply isn’t available trying to get around by maps or GPS on your phone. You can also learn interesting tidbits of information about each stop you see, so you can enjoy a richer, fuller experience.

There are several different types of tours you can enjoy on Mykonos island.

Sightseeing Tours

These are the most traditional Mykonos tours. Of course, most tours involve some amount of sightseeing, but these tours usually take place during the day and are geared towards the most interesting sightseeing destinations on Mykonos island. Make sure you take your camera for these tours to capture all your favorite sights.

For instance, you might take a sightseeing tour to see Delos island, the mythological birthplace of Apollo. Over the course of history, Delos became uninhabitable due to a lack of food and water. It was left alone until archaeologists of the 19th century excavated it, finding classical artwork and signs of the life and culture that once made up the place. Eventually, the Archaeological Museum of Delos was formed to preserve all of this culture. Now you can visit Delos yourself through a guided sightseeing tour.

Another popular sightseeing tour on Mykonos island, Greece is a tour of some of the churches of Mykonos. There are 365, so there’s no chance of seeing them all on your way, but a sightseeing tour will ensure that you’re able to see the best ones. One church you can’t miss is Panagia Paraportiani, a Byzantine church that has stood the test of centuries and still serves as a place of worship to this day. Be respectful when you visit, but make sure to take in all the religious artwork dating back to medieval times.

You can also take a tour to see the 16 trademark windmills of Mykonos island. These classical windmills are scattered mostly through Chora, but you may find them in some of the outlying areas as well.

Private Tours

Sometimes you want to enjoy the experience with just your significant other, your close friends, or your family. That’s understandable, and many Mykonos tours are private or semi-private. You can lose the crowds, but you don’t lose the quality of the experience, and you can find many private tours that offer the same sights that general sightseeing tours offer. In fact, some of these tours are identical to traditional sightseeing tours, except that they take smaller parties: either your party specifically, or a party of 4 or 5 tourists rather than a large group. For instance, you can take a tour of Delos as a private tour as well.

Private tours need to be booked in advance, and for peak season, private tours must be booked months in advance. A guided private tour can show you all the best stops on Mykonos island so you won’t have to plan it out for yourself. They’re great for Mykonos family holidays, as you can more easily keep an eye on your kids and be brought closer together through the experience. And while many private tours in Mykonos are by land, some of the most interesting ones are actually by sea. Which brings us to our next point…

Boat Tours

Some of the most beautiful, enriching Mykonos tours you can take are Mykonos boat tours. Mykonos boat tours take full advantage of the perfect location in the Aegean sea and help visitors to make the most of it. There’s a wide variety of tours here. You can take a yacht tour, for instance, to Delos and Rhenia islands. For more athletic tourists, Mykonos boat tours might mean kayaking day tours or tours that take you to a location where you can scuba dive or snorkel and experience Mykonos’ sea life.

One of the most popular types of boat tours is a sunset tour. Board a boat in the morning and enjoy a day full of activity, ending with a glass of wine and view of the sunset on deck in the evening. This splendid beauty and tranquility is something you just can’t find anywhere but on a Cycladic vacation.

Of course, with so many tours, you’ll need somewhere to stay. What do you choose for your Mykonos accommodation?
